Elevated high up in the Alpilles of Provence is the unforgettable village of Les Baux-de-Provence. Officially considered one of France's most beautiful villages, it seduces visitors with its charming limestone buildings that blend perfectly with the adjacent rocky cliffs.
Spend your day winding up and down the narrow cobblestone streets, passing by chic boutiques, little cafés, and shops featuring local artists. Provençal gourmand specialties like olive oil, tapenade, honey, wine, and nougat make great souvenirs, and a bird's-eye view allows visitors to see as far as the Mediterranean on sunny days.
Rich in history, the village showcases 22 historical monuments, including the 12th-century Church of Saint Vincent and the well-known medieval fortress, Château des Baux. It's no surprise that prolific artists like Vincent van Gogh spent so much time painting in this area. He painted his famous works, The Starry Night and Wheat Field with Cypresses, while living next door in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.
